An island in the southeastern Aigean (Aegean) Sea.
During the Trojan War, Antiphos (Antiphus) and Pheidippos (Pheidippus) commanded the Achaian (Achaean) troops from islands in the southeastern Aigean Sea, including—Krapathos,1 Kasos, Nisyros2 (Nisyrus), the city of Kos (Cos), and the Kalydnai (Calydnian isles).3
1. In the Iliad, the island was called Krapathos. However, the name Karpathos has been in use since the 4th century BCE.
