During the Trojan War, Peneleos and Leitos commanded the Achaian soldiers from Hyle and 28 other cities in Boiotia.
Oresbios, a respected man of property from Hyle, had the misfortune to be in the path of Trojan Prince Hektor when he was infused with the fury of Ares, god of war. Oresbios and several other Achaians died during Hektor's rampage.
The distinctively massive shield of Telamonian Aias had been fashioned by a man named Tychios from Hyle.
