The highest peak of Mount Ida.
The god Zeus had an altar on Gargaron and was worshiped there as Idaian Zeus. A Trojan named Laogonos was the priest of Idaian Zeus at the time of the Trojan War. The panoramic view of the battlefield provided by Mount Ida allowed Zeus to sit on Gargaron and observe the Trojans and Achaians as they waged war on the plain below.
The sanctity of the mountain did not prevent the goddess Hera from plotting to trick Zeus as he sat on Gargaron watching the war. Hera and Hypnos, god of sleep, combined their devious talents to distract Zeus's attention from the battlefield so Poseidon, lord of the sea, could assist the beleaguered Achaians.
