The goddess Hera flew her chariot from Mount Olympos, across northern Greece, over lovely Emathia, past Mount Athos and finally to the island of Lemnos where she was to meet Hypnos, god of sleep.
The two divinities were plotting to waylay Zeus on Mount Ida so he would be distracted from the Trojan battlefield. The god Poseidon intended to intervein on behalf of the Achaians (Achaeans), which was strictly forbidden by Zeus.
