A town sacred to the god Apollon.
Agamemnon, commander-in-chief of the Achaian army, insulted and threatened a priest of Apollon. Begging for justice, the priest prayed to Apollon, lord of Chryse, Killa, and Tenedos.1 To avert Apollon's wrath, Agamemnon sent a delegation to Chryse to make sacrifices and perform the appropriate rituals. Despite Chryse's relative proximity to the Achaian encampment, the delegation sailed to Chryse rather than scaling or marching around Mount Ida.
1. Tenedos—this reference was to the town of Tenedos and not the island with the same name.
