Aigina2
Aegina

A town or place in Epidauria.1

Diomedes commanded the Achaian (Achaean) soldiers from Aigina and the cities of Argos, Asine, Eiones (Eionae), Epidauros (Epidaurus), Hermione, Mases, Tiryns, and Troizen (Troezen).

The solitary reference to "Aigina" in the Iliad is often interpreted to mean the island of Aigina. Several competent translators have made that error but the Aigina mentioned by the poet Homer was unquestionably a city or locality on the Peloponnesian Peninsula. The location of ancient mainland Aigina cannot be determined with accuracy but it was definitely in the domain of the Achaian commander Diomedes. Using hints and assumptions, this map indicates the likely location of ancient Aigina.

1. Epidauria—an area on the eastern coast of the Peloponnesian Peninsula.
