| This is a depiction of a sphinx . . . although the sphinx is usually thought of as female, there are statues in existence which are clearly male . . . the only examples of a male sphinx that I saw were in a museum dedicated to art from the Kyklades . . . that museum would not permit photos of any sort to be taken.
