Greek Mythology: From The Iliad To The Fall Of The Last Tyrant

Epidaurus

Epidaurus
This is all that’s left of the sanctuary of Asklepios ... at one time, circa 400 BCE, there was a circular structure here where the rites of worship were performed ... the main hall was called the Abaton ... the sick and injured pilgrims would make a sacrifice, participate in a ceremony and then be left to have a healing sleep. There are several inscriptions left by people who were cured by the divine powers of Asklepios and his priests.
