Greek Mythology: From The Iliad To The Fall Of The Last Tyrant

Fun Fact Quiz 6

You can’t buy a map for a maze

A labyrinth is a maze ... a maze just wouldn’t be any fun if they sold maps to the dumb thing ... and besides, this isn’t a fun type of maze.

The labyrinth we’re talking about here is the famous, original labyrinth and it was built so that no one could find their way out ... the only person who knew the intricate layout of the maze was its designer Daedalus and he was highly motivated to not reveal the secrets of the passageways.

Daedalus was the prisoner of King Minos of Crete and Daedalus was commanded to build the labyrinth so that King Minos could punish the Athenians for the dreadful things they did to Minos’ son Androgeus ... for Daedalus to help the Athenian youths who were put into the labyrinth would have been an affront to King Minos ... Daedalus’ captivity was hard enough without getting King Minos more irate than he already was.

The labyrinth Gift Shop didn’t sell maps to the maze so if that’s your best plan, you might as well say goodbye to your friends and family because you’re going to be in the labyrinth for a long, long time ... actually, your stay in the labyrinth won’t be too long because there is something, a mean and deadly something, in the labyrinth with you ... something directly from a nightmare ... it’s actually better if I don’t tell you exactly what that something is because it will just give you the willies ... I’m trying to be a nice guy here and I don’t want to spoil your last few hours on earth.

Just forget the map and try to think of something low-tech which will help you find your way out of the labyrinth.

Need a hint? Okay ... wool ... cotton ... nylon ... silk ... try to unravel that one ... I hope you do ... it would be nice if you found your way out of the labyrinth ... I need all the traffic I can get on this web site and I don’t think Hades has WiFi in the Underworld.
