Greek Mythology: From The Iliad To The Fall Of The Last Tyrant

Fun Fact Quiz 6

Should I Call You God Or Just Dad?

We like to flatter ourselves and pretend that the modern world is a lot more complicated than it was in ages past ... don’t kid yourself ... life on this earth has never, ever been simple or uncomplicated! The life of Alexander the Great was no exception to that hard, fast rule.

Alexander was born into a complicated family and it got worse as he got older ... after his father was assassinated, Alexander became the ruler of the ambitious and highly militarized state of Macedon ... his humble goal in life was to rule the known world ... I mean really ... was that too much to ask? No one could ever accuse Alexander of underrating himself.

Anyway ... Alexander went to Egypt specifically to consult the Oracle of Amon to see if he was descended from the god Amon Ra ... the Greeks knew Amon by the name of Zeus and being descended from Zeus was nothing to sneeze at ... like I was saying, Alexander had reason to believe that his father was a god but he wanted to make sure he had his father’s divine protection before he tried anything too dangerous or fool-hearty.

The Oracle of Amon was not exactly specific as to who Alexander’s father really was BUT if we are to believe the historical accounts of Alexander’s exchange with the priest of Amon, Alexander left the shrine believing that he was the son of Zeus.

Alexander went on to become the undisputed ruler of the known world but his trip to Egypt played an important role in everything he did afterwards ... his fearlessness ... his magnanimity ... his quest for glory ... everything he did after leaving Egypt was indicative of a man who was either truly divine or possessed of a rare imperial nature.

Congratulations ... your answer wasn’t just Good ... it was Great!
