The Phineus we’re looking for is the same guy who used his psychic powers to help Jason and the Argonauts find the Golden Fleece.
He was a nice enough man but he just made a few bad life-choices ... his second wife was a mean woman and she convinced Phineus that his two sons were lazy bums ... Phineus went a little crazy and blinded his sons ... well ... as you can imagine, Zeus didn’t go for that sort of thing and told Phineus that he could either die or be blind ... Phineus chose blindness and that really ticked off Helios (the Sun) ... really ... Helios goes to a lot of trouble to light up the Earth and he took it personally that Phineus would turn a blind eye(s) to his diligent labors.
Helios plopped Phineus on a remote island and made him share his food with the Harpies ... the Harpies were not exactly the best lunch guests because they ate as much as they could and then put their dirty paws on the stuff they didn’t eat ... poor Phineus had to eat what the Harpies left ... that meant that he was hungry most of the time.
When Phineus met Jason and the Argonauts, his luck changed for the better and I think he learned an important lesson ... if you are dumb enough to make one of the Immortals mad ... don’t mess with Helios.
