Diomedes was a deadly man even without any sort of added coolness ... but he wanted it all!
Diomedes was not a man to take lightly ... he was fearless and he was a fierce fighter ... he would stand in the front ranks of the Achaean Greeks and fight the Trojans with unbridled fury ... he would chop your head off without hesitation if you were a Trojan spy ... just ask Dolon’s ghost when you get to the House of Hades if you don’t believe me ... anyway, back to the cool armor thing...
While Diomedes was on the battlefield, the goddess Athene approached him and told him that she would help him find the other gods and goddesses who were in the fray ... she gave Diomedes a special helmet which would allow him to see through the mist which surrounded the Immortals ... the Immortals could assume the guise of anyone and anything so without the special ultra-cool helmet, they were imperceptible to mortal eyes ... Athene warned Diomedes that he should avoid all the gods and goddesses except the goddess of Love, Aphrodite ... Athene didn’t want Diomedes to fall in love ... she wanted him to chase Aphrodite from the battlefield.
It seems that Athene had a special grudge against Aphrodite and wanted to see her humiliated and, as an extra added insult, wounded ... Diomedes waded into the ranks of the Trojan defenses and saw Aphrodite ... she was on the battlefield protecting her son Aineias so she was easy to spot ... Diomedes did not disappoint Athene ... he stabbed Aphrodite in the hand and the ichor flowed down her perfect flesh ... Aphrodite retreated to Mount Olympos in Ares’ war-chariot to tend her wound ... it kinda makes you wonder why Athene, the goddess of Wisdom, would want to hurt the goddess of Love ... it also makes you wonder why the heck the goddess of Love was on the battlefield in the first place ... if she just wanted to protect her son, she could have just grabbed him by the ear and dragged him home ... okay ... enough wondering ... what happened, happened.
Yes ... Diomedes was cool ... he was so cool that he was cold ... a cold blooded lunatic! Be that as it may, Diomedes earns our respect for having the coolest armor at the battle of Troy.
Now ... earn some respect for yourself and answer some more Quiz questions correctly.
