The Troglodytes lived in northern Africa ... actually, they lived under northern Africa ... their name could be literally translated as, One who creeps into holes.
The way the Troglodytes are described, they don’t really come across as cave dwellers ... they seem to have actually lived in holes in the ground ... if you think about it for a moment, the whole hole idea doesn’t seem too weird ... there are modern people who live in holes in the ground ... the opal miners of Australia immediately come to mind ... the Troglodytes might have started living in holes for the same reason as the opal miners ... the land they lived IN was just too hot to live ON.
We really don’t know why the Troglodytes moved underground but that’s what they’re famous for ... I guess there’s more than one way to get into the history books.
