Unfortunately, Jason and the Argonauts didn’t encounter a hippocamp on their Quest for the Golden Fleece . . if they had I assure you, the story would have been a whole lot better ... yea ... yea ... I know what you’re thinking ... a dragon, bronze bulls, witches, sea chases, Harpies ... what could improve a story that had all that stuff in it ... a hippocamp, that’s what!
A hippocamp is a horse-like aquatic creature with the tail of a fish ... just imagine Jason and the Argonauts riding on hippocamps to get the Golden Fleece instead of riding on their boring old boat ... what would have been better than that? I’m willing to bet that Apollonios Rhodios is sorry he didn’t include hippocamps when he wrote the Argonautika ... I guess that’s why his book has only lasted a crummy 2300 years. Oh well, hind sight is always 20-20.
By the way ... you can’t outrun a hippocamp because they’re sea creatures ... you can’t out swim one either.
